The Pride Vision Statement
“Our pupils have worked with staff to produce our ‘Pride Group’ Vision statement. They have chosen to use the ‘Q’ as ‘questioning’ they believe this represents the community’s spectrum more broadly and it is a word that some people choose to claim.
Discovery Pride Group aims to provide students on the LBGTQ+ spectrum with a space to freely express themselves and explore their identities and to provide them with a sense of community within the setting. Over time we also hope to help forge a sense of connection with the wider LGBTQ+ community as a whole and especially within the local community. Through a range of activities, discussions, games and (hopefully!) trips, we aim to reduce any feelings of isolation and depression that students may feel, and give them a place where they can truly be themselves.
Our secondary goal is to work towards a more accepting and tolerant atmosphere for all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It is our aim to promote tolerance and acceptance throughout the school community and to provide a safe, non-judgmental space as a support network for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, and Straight youth and allies who share a common vision of social equality.”
